2019 Brunello di Montalcino

I’m happy to report that the current releases from Montalcino are an embarrassment of riches for collectors and fans of the appellation....Placing [2016 & 2019 vintages] next to each other demonstrates that Montalcino continues to create world-class wines of the highest caliber and, in most cases, at reasonable price points.

This is a vintage of radiance and appeal without any sensation of over-ripeness or lack of complexity. The wines are aromatically intense and full of dimension, with translucent color, fruit typicity and the ability to communicate a sense of place. They are structured and built for cellaring, often showing their best after being open for over two days in bottle. The terms classic, racy, cool-toned, crunchy and sleek litter my tasting notes, and while many 2019s display an inviting personality today, they are balanced for the cellar and sure to mature beautifully over the next ten to fifteen years, if not more. This is the vintage we’ve all been waiting for. - Vinous Media

Brunello di Montalcino Part 1!

It is no secret that the 2019 vintage in Montalcino is one we're all scrambling for.  We have put together a collection of 2019 Brunellos from one of the premier importers of the region.  Consider this part 1.

Ive had many of these producers over the years through multiple vintages....

Ciacci Piccolomini has impeccable balance and intense red fruits, minerality, and texture. One of my favorite producers of all time.  Ciacci's scores are some of the highest of the vintage.

Casanova della Cerbaie I've got a deep love for.  These age so well and are just a pleasure to drink.  They are such fruit driven, dark, but chewy and classic Brunellos.  These got fantastic scores.

Scopetone, although never the highest scoring wine of the vintage, they alway suck me in with their rustic, pure old school style. These are a throwback to the old world and they've never waivered. If you want old school Tuscany, don't miss them.

Mocali always represetns a tremendous value, darker fruits, and weighty, with wonderful texture, its just always the one i choose to drink over cellar.  The price point is one of the best of the region.  If you want to stock the cellar at an affordable price and drink these over a decade these are one of the ones to grab.

Uccelliera and Voliero are always a critics favorite--these are intense but classic toeing the line between flashy and contemplative.  A fantastic tiny winery (both labels owned and made by Andrea Cortonesi) that garners top accolades year in and out.  The 2019 received high scores.

La Serena & Lisini are a hedonist's delight, these are always top scoring, intense and concentrated Brunellos.  La Serene Scores are some of the highest of the vintage.

Enzo Tiezzi even after all of these years are a brunello lovers secret.  Pure old school Brunello at a great value.  Nobody but us old timers know em.
