Schiavenza is a tiny Domaine located in the Serralunga d'Alba, one of the major Barolo provinces. Here you will recognize some of the great cru vineyards of Barolo-- like Prapo, Broglio, & Ceretto. Known for more brooding and powerful Barolos, we see this terroir characteristic trickle down into the Barberas and Dolcettos too. Schiavenza holds a mere 9 hectares of vines throughout the Serralunga, including some very old vine Dolcetto which was planted back in 1965 to this great terroir. 
And its the Dolcetto we are here to talk about! What a little wine! We all gave a unanimous wow when tasting. Upon opening, beautiful deep red fruit and floral aromas jump from the glass, its just a pleasure to nose. Black cherry pit, red raspberries, almost a candied like red fruit nose. You can smell the intensity. The palate was generous and ripe but so fresh, with its dark core and magenta rim. the generous fruit was so lively and chiseled, backed up by supple, fine tannins and a classic Dolcetto acidity. The Serralunga terroir and old vines really shine through here. I love finding wines like this, its so much fun!
