Château Maillet has been a family owned estate since 1820.
This is of one the little hidden gems of the Pomerol appellation with only 2.5 hectares.
It produces around 8,000 bottles per vintage and enjoys a great location/terroir right next to Gazin and Le Bon Pasteur.
It is definitely a great value for money!
The winery consultant is Hubert de Boüard who is actually the owner of Château Angélus.
It is vinified in large wooden barrels and amphoras. It is made from 95% Merlot & 5% Cabernet Franc, a typical Pomerol blend.
As you will notice in Jeb Dunnuck’s comment further down below, it is about to enter a perfect drinking window!
94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: I loved the 2020 Château Maillet, a richer, concentrated, focused Pomerol with terrific density and depth. Black cherries, smoked darker currants, chocolate, and leafy tobacco are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with plenty of background oak and a great finish. It’s brilliant juice, but it needs at least 4-6 years of bottle age.
