Field blend of Carignan, Sangiovese and Zinfandel. Aged for 14 months in neutral French oak. All the varieties in the Mendocino Red Blend are old vines, grown together, Organic, and dry-farmed. All the fruit was de-stemmed and fermented together, naturally in small open-top fermenters. Crunchy, dark purple nose, with black pepper and a wafting cinnamon-like spice. Classic California depth and concentration to the fruit here, not totally unlike Cab Sauv. The palate is vibrant and juicy, though, with a fine vein of acidity really pulling it along, and loads of dark berries continuing. This is delicious with a chill and drunk fresh, but only gains in complexity with time in a decanter. Bravo!
