From 80-year-old Mission vines in the Somers vineyard in Lodi. Mission is most likely the oldest variety in California, genetically identical to the País grape brought to South America in the 16th Century. For too long it was ignored; only now is it getting the attention it deserves. This is carbonically macerated, fermented spontaneously, and made without sulfur. The nose is explosively fruity: blueberries, strawberries, pomegranate, even a hint of guava. The palate is light and juicy, with a firm lick of acidity and just a whisper of tannins. Throw a chill on this bad boy and drink all summer long!
