This is one of the most downright out there but absolutely mesmerizing wines I have ever had. “Les Vins Pirouettes” is a collective project launched by Christian Binner, the renowned Alsatian winemaker who’s been making legendary zero-zero wines for more than 20 years. Saddened by the sight of organic and biodynamic grapes being sold for little to cooperatives, Christian decided to encourage these growers to make wine under their proper name instead, promoting the idea of soulful terroir wines made with zero nonsense both in the vineyard and the cellar. Cultivated and vinified by Raphaël Marchal of Domaine de L’Envol from a .82ha vineyard of 50 years old vines planted on limestone & biodynamic since 2016 This "Saveurs de Raphael" bottling is a blend of gewurztraminer and riesling and absutely floored us.  Reductive notes of gunflint reminiscent of great white burgundy, high toned notes of VA reminiscnent of Piemontese Nebbiolo, it was washed over with intense notes of pear and tropical fruit running through its ripe, bold palate.  This was a truly mindblowing wine that is not for the feint of heart, but downright delicious no matter which way you spin it.
