We were floored last week at the value and deliciousness of this new fall white (as we're calling it). Like the reds. it's no secret the white wines of the Rhone Valley in Southern France are some of the finest in the world, but they often fetch a hefty price tag for the good ones.  But on the contrary, with a bit of searching and a discerning palate, easily found are some of the sleeper values in wine.  White Rhone wines offer a view into one of the unique styles of wine, as they are made with grapes most notably grown only in this warm region, with it's large gallets stone laden soils.  Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourbelanc to name a few.  These wines, around this time of year, are an easy departure from the crispy, light, summer whites we drink. While many can be oily and opulent, even sometimes too low in acidity, this selection from d'Estezargues is impeccably balanced and drop dead delicious, showcasing the classic yellow tropical fruits, medium body, touching on opulent textures, but never going over that line.  It's almost Chenin Blanc-like textures is what drew us in, with a hint of that wooly, waxy vibe we love so much, aromas of fresh yellow fruits and flowers really make a statement on the nose.  It's one of the most perfect value whites we have come across in quite some time. It's a perfect blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, and Viognier.

D'Estezargues is a wonderful little cooperative winery in the South of France, working with small, organic farmers around the region to produce amazing value & honest little wines.  Grab this for anytime drinking on its own, or pair it with any dish that has lighter meats, or sauces with bases that may be buttery or creamy.  it certainly is not a big wine, but it can stand up to a dish with a little more going on than just seafood or salad.

Pale straw in the glass with shimmering silver highlights. Scents of pear and mellowing yellow apple dominates the nose and are followed by a note of hay and white flowers. The palate is clean and supple with intense flavors of stone fruit and some tropical fruit flavors as well. The wine finishes with notes of dried apricot, white flowers and wet stones.
